Mount Moriah Cemetery

Last week my friend Deborah showed me around Mount Moriah cemetery in west philly. There are two important things to know about Mt. Moriah: it is huge and abandoned. We got there just before sunset and had a walk around before it got dark.

Some places appear to be kind of well-tended, but some others are literally forests by this point. It was a strange scene to walk into a thicket of trees, vines, and thorns and run straight into an overgrown family plot.

There are also some pretty impressive mausoleums that are equally dilapidated.

There is also a well-tended veteran’s cemetery, which was strange because there are totally overgrown private plots right next to them.

Have you read The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman? These pictures look like they could be the setting of a US-based sequel.

No I haven’t read that one, but I have read American Gods, which was good. It’s definitely a strange setting.
